The Lego Cake

Once upon a time (Friday night) David’s mom (her name is Lisa) set on an ambitious task to bake him a cake for his birthday. She thought it would be really cool to make a Lego cake for him, just like the one she saw on Flickr.

She’s never really baked a cake before, let alone decorate one, but her BFF said making the Lego cake is really easy. She’s made one before and assured David’s mom that there’s no way she can mess it up. Just a rectangular cake and cupcakes then frost it.

So David’s mommy went to Target, got a bunch of cake mixes and frosting. The cake kinda turned out lopsided but that’s ok, she said, she’ll even it up with frosting.

So far, so good. Now. The frosting. First, she tried to make red frosting but red food dye doesn’t quite turn out red mixed with white frosting. So now little David had a pink Lego birthday cake, not to mention it looked like a 3-year-old made it. So David’s mommy started all over again and made blue frosting instead. But no luck. Even with the change of color, David’s birthday cake still looked — in his Daddy’s words — “home made.” David’s mommy was up frosting the darn cake until midnight trying to make it look less crappy.

When David woke up the next day, he thought his mommy had made him a Frankenstein cake to match his Frankenstein pinata.

Luckily for David, the Albertson’s nearby had a ready-made Spongebob cake.

And the birthday gang had a great time.

Ahhh, but at least David’s mom (Lisa) tried! :) Happy Birthday to David.

(Soooo, what’d you do with the extra cake??)

Now I finally get best friends forevah! I thought it was an oddball expression for adults, now i get it. Every post so chock full of info. Even in the benign details. Thanks!

And I disagree. I think homemade cakes taste better because they look so awful. Did you eat the lego cake? C’mon, tell me Albertson’s tasted better? No way.

As the saying goes “it’s the thought (and effort in this case) that counts”. Brilliant idea and nice job on the cake!

good luck with your swim this week!

Jammie J — I’ve been eating the cake. The boys had it for breakfast one morning.

Jane — You’re right…my cake still tasted better despite its looks. My BFF tends to be right about a lot of things.

Neil — yeah. And you ate one of the best frosted ones.

Thomas — Yay! A for effort! Yay for the swim too. I’ve been training almost every day the last couple of weeks.

My cousin is making cakes now! Aww too bad I wasnt there, but I’m very impressed!

Tip #952823 in Cakes: If it’s lopsided, cut the cake with a serrated knife to make it all even…then Frost!

See what happens when the Family Baker doesn’t show up for her nephew’s birthday? How’s that for a guilt trip?
